The Canadian Government has announced that it is extending its service to Dominica by deploying officials for biometric data collection on September 25 and 26, 2023.
This initiative aims to simplify the visa application process for Dominican nationals who previously had to travel to other countries to fulfill the biometric requirements.
The importance of biometrics in visa applications
Canada requires nationals from the Commonwealth of Dominica to provide biometric data—namely fingerprints and a photograph—as part of their application for visitor visas, study permits, work permits, temporary residence, or permanent residence.
The upcoming visit allows for these processes to be carried out locally, eliminating the need for applicants to go abroad to collect this crucial data.
Outside of the designated period, Dominicans applying for Canadian visas still have the option to travel to established biometrics collection points in nearby countries like Barbados, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, or Trinidad and Tobago.

The Canadian Government encourages timely applications to make the most of this special provision in September, emphasizing the value of streamlining procedures for those in the Commonwealth of Dominica.
This exercise is geared towards the following individuals:
1. Commonwealth of Dominica nationals who anticipate travel to Canada;
2. Persons who have already applied whether online or by mail for a visa, work or study permit or for permanent residence and have received their Biometric Instruction Letter; and,
3. Nationals of other biometric information-required countries residing in the Commonwealth of Dominica planning to travel to Canada.

Appointment details
To book an appointment for biometrics collection, persons are encouraged to write to: BDGTN VISA@international.gc.ca
The cut-off date for scheduling an appointment is Tuesday, September 19, 2023, and there are a limited number of appointments available for the two-day collection visit.
Appointments will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Appointment requests will not be accommodate after that date unless cancellations are received.
Canadian officials will be able to assist applicants who have appointments and the required Biometrics Instruction Letter and passport in hand during the hours listed below. Officials will not be collecting applications or biometric information from applicants who have not received this letter.
The biometrics collection will take place at the Fort Young Hotel, Victoria Street, Roseau in Dominica.
