The Carnival Magic cruise ship has departed Jamaica after it was damaged at the Ocho Rios Cruise Terminal in St. Ann on Tuesday.
Reports are that the turbulent weather caused the ship’s mooring ropes to snap, inflicted harm on the breasting dolphins, and resulted in a collision with the concrete berthing structure.
Response ensures safety
Following the incident, the cruise ship remained docked until Wednesday afternoon, undergoing thorough safety inspections before it could depart.
Law enforcement’s vigilant oversight
Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell, head of the St. Ann Police, said officers are keeping close watch over the developments to ensure the well-being of guests and the safeguarding of Jamaica’s tourism reputation.
Powell emphasized the commitment of the police to work in concert with the Port Authority and tourism stakeholders, including the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo), to maintain Ocho Rios as a safe and appealing destination.
Despite the unexpected incident, there were no reports of dissatisfaction among passengers or crew regarding their extended stay in Ocho Rios.
