In an effort to combat the escalating gun violence, the island of Anguilla has initiated a campaign called “Stop the Guns.”
In response to the rise in gun-related crime, the Governor, the Government of Anguilla, and the Royal Anguilla Police Force have launched the campaign.
Two-week window for amnesty
Starting from Monday, January 29, 2024, the people are being encouraged to surrender any unlawful firearms and ammunition.
This window of opportunity, ending on Sunday, February 11, 2024, is part of a strategic effort to remove these weapons from circulation.
Proactive measures for a safer community
There will be no questions will be asked and no person handing in weapons or ammunition during that time will be prosecuted for illegal possession of those weapons or possession of ammunition under a “Gun Amnesty Law” signed by the Governor.
A box has been established as a secure method for the collection of these weapons.
A locked box will be available at the Valley Police Station, accessible at all hours, to ensure the safe and confidential submission of illegal arms and ammunition.
Firm stance post-amnesty
After February 12, 2024, the government has made it clear that stringent legal consequences will be applied to those found in possession of illegal firearms or ammunition.
