In February, the heads at Netflix dropped a bombshell – they will be rolling out sweeping changes to curb password sharing, emphasizing that a Netflix account was intended to exist per household. This comes in the wake of declining subscriber counts beginning last year, and a stock price plunge.
Netflix previously provided multiple tiers of plans, with the higher tiers allowing for simultaneous streaming at higher resolutions. Customers took advantage of this feature, sharing passwords across state and national lines. It remains to be seen whether this pulled emergency lever will result in increased revenue for the streamer as it tries to force those freeloading off of family members, friends, partners, etc. into becoming paying customers.
The changes have already been rolled out to Latin America, Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain. As of now, there’s no news as to when these changes will arrive stateside and in the Caribbean. However, even if you reside in the United States, users sharing your account in the Caribbean might have already begun experiencing difficulty accessing Netflix’s library.
Amid these changes, you may be thinking that there are no other options for watching your favorite movies and tv shows with your family and friends. While Netflix is a great platform to keep up with what’s trending, other streaming platforms can provide content for the whole family.
