Jamaican Bar Association calls for legislation to prohibit pillion riders on motorcycles

The Jamaican Bar Association (JAMBAR) is calling on the government to consider enacting legislation that would prohibit pillion riders on motorcycles.

This recommendation, issued in a media release on Sunday, noted the increase in robberies and homicides committed by assailants on motorcycles.

The association specifically cites the tragic case of paralegal Sandra Risden, who was killed during a brazen attack amid rush hour traffic.

Refining the proposal

While advocating for the ban on pillion riders, JAMBAR acknowledges the importance of refining and adapting the proposal to ensure its efficacy. 

It further notes these measures have been adopted with good results by other countries such as Colombia.
