Broward Health Coral Springs has earned a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) designation, allowing it to provide continuous high-level acute care for newborns in need of advanced medical interventions.
This upgrade enables the hospital’s team of neonatologists and skilled nurses to stabilize and care for infants born before 30 weeks gestation until they are ready to go home or be transferred.
“Our Level III NICU is dedicated to stabilizing and providing exceptional care to newborn babies who need special attention,” said Broward Health Coral Springs CEO Kristen Bowman. “We’re able to ensure our newborns who require extra care receive the support they need from highly skilled staff in a healing environment that caters to both the parent and baby.”
Previously certified as a Level II NICU by Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), Broward Health Coral Springs now joins the ranks of Level III NICU facilities, equipped to provide crucial interventions such as breathing support, feeding tubes, and surgery for premature infants.
Recognizing the community’s need for more complex neonatal care, the hospital invested $500,000 to bring these services closer to home, allowing more Broward County families to stay local for high-risk neonatal care.
The upgraded NICU provides all-private rooms to ensure family comfort and privacy, and parents are welcome to stay overnight to promote bonding with their newborns. To support breastfeeding mothers, each room includes a dedicated refrigerator for breast milk storage, ensuring its safety. Patient safety is further reinforced with central monitoring, managed by a team of clinical experts, to keep infants under continuous watch.
Broward Health Coral Springs’ NICU has scored in the top 5% nationwide for patient experience, earning it the prestigious Guardian of Excellence Award from Press Ganey in 2024.
