Grammy-nominated Jamaican superstar Spice is back with her latest single, “Sitt’n Fi Chat,” celebrating her long career in dancehall music.
Produced by diamond-selling artist Shaggy and Shane Hoosong, the song reimagines Henry “Junjo” Lawes’ iconic 1981 “Gunman” riddim, delivering a modern twist on a reggae-dancehall classic.
“Sitt’n Fi Chat” is part of the “Badman” riddim project, a juggling series that also features performances from Shaggy, Olaf Blackwood, Junior Cat, and others, all over the revamped “Gunman” instrumental. Known for its legendary sound system anthems, the original riddim became famous with Michael Prophet’s hit “Gunman.”
In her new release, Spice delivers a nostalgic yet fresh deejay flow, channeling Dancehall pioneers like Sister Nancy while maintaining her signature style. Shaggy and Hoosong’s production brings a booming bassline and powerful horns, designed to energize listeners.
The video for “Sitt’n Fi Chat” is a tribute to Spice’s 25-year journey in music, featuring found footage and re-enacted scenes from her career. It highlights key moments, from her early introduction by Ninjaman to her collaborations with Vybz Kartel, and her rise to Dancehall royalty. The visuals showcase pivotal career milestones, including hits like “Romping Shop” and “So Mi Like It,” concluding with Spice taking command of the stage as she has done throughout her career.
“‘Sitt’n Fi Chat’ is a special release because it reflects my musical journey, including my introduction to Dancehall. Big up to the legendary Ninjaman — it’s like walking down memory lane,” Spice shared. “My deejay style here is classic old-school, and the video brings back moments from my biggest career highlights.”
Spice also expressed her excitement about working with Shaggy once again. “Working with the legendary Shaggy is always a privilege. His ear for music is second to none, and I can’t wait for the world to hear this versatile track,” she added.
The release of “Sitt’n Fi Chat” follows the massive success of Spice’s 2021 hit collaboration with Shaggy and Sean Paul, “Go Down Deh,” which surpassed 275 million views on YouTube.
