An eye-opening cinematic experience is set to take center stage at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center on September 9th, which will shed light on the dire issue of global human trafficking.
The event will be a screening of “KaNaani,” a poignant film directed by Nigerian Tola Olatunji.
About the film: KaNaani
The film offers a sobering glimpse into the lives of two young lovers who embark on a journey to The Promise Land (Kanaani) in search of better opportunities, only to face a stark reality that shatters their dreams.
“KaNaani” tells the compelling story of Obehi and Gbovo, a pair of lovebirds who envision a brighter future beyond their homeland of Nigeria.
They set their sights on the United States, often referred to as the promise land or Kanaani, seeking greener pastures. When circumstances allow for only one of them to seize the opportunity, Gbovo selflessly steps aside, allowing Obehi to take the chance with the promise of reuniting soon. However, as Obehi embarks on her journey, she finds herself ensnared in a dark world of prostitution, a cruel twist of fate that she never anticipated. Gbovo, desperate to reconnect, takes the perilous route to Kanaani through Libya, only to face the horrors of slavery.
The film meticulously delves into the pain of their separation, exposing the hidden layers of human trafficking while highlighting the indomitable spirit of determination, commitment, and unwavering dedication.
KaNaani tackles social issues
The film unflinchingly tackles the grave issues of trafficking, abduction, and visa racketeering, all prevalent crimes depicted within its narrative. The aspiration to achieve the American Dream, marked by opportunity and hope, resonates deeply with countless individuals worldwide.
The event promises more than just a screening.
Attendees will have the unique opportunity to grace the red carpet and engage with the Executive Producer, Tola Olatunji, along with key actors from the film. Distinguished figures, including US Congresswomen Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Fredrica Wilson, and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, will virtually address the audience. Commissioner Maxwell B. Chambers of Miramar, Florida, and representatives from various consulates are also expected to be in attendance.

The evening will also include captivating presentations that promise to leave a lasting impact.
An educational opportunity
Beyond the entertainment, this event serves as a powerful trafficking awareness campaign. The funds raised will contribute to aiding victims of violence through the SAEDINTRA Foundation, a reputable 501c3 organization based in Florida.
