Sizzla Kalonji to celebrate 30 years in music with Lauderhill event

As Jamaica marks 63 years of independence, Sizzla Kalonji — one of the most prolific and influential artists in the history of reggae and dancehall — is preparing to light up South Florida with a special performance that doubles as a celebration of his 30-year career in music.

On August 3rd, the City of Lauderhill will host the Solid As A Rock Concert, named after one of Sizzla’s most enduring anthems. Known for its fiery declaration of resilience, identity, and spiritual grounding, “Solid As A Rock” has transcended borders and eras to become a rallying cry for fans across the globe. And it’s just one of the many powerful records that make up Sizzla’s towering discography — one that includes over 70 albums and a catalog rich with messages of consciousness, black pride, social justice, and spiritual clarity.

Born Miguel Collins in Saint Mary, Jamaica, Sizzla emerged in the mid-1990s as part of the Bobo Ashanti movement, bringing a new kind of intensity to roots reggae. At a time when dancehall was dominating the charts, he struck a chord with conscious listeners looking for substance and spirit. His early works, including Praise Ye Jah, Black Woman & Child, and Royal Son of Ethiopia, quickly established him as a voice for the voiceless — a modern-day prophet channeling the fire of reggae greats like Bob Marley and Burning Spear.

But Sizzla didn’t stop there. His work ethic is legendary. With multiple album releases in a single year and a relentless performance schedule, he helped keep roots reggae alive through turbulent decades and reshaped the sound for a new generation. Now, 30 years later, he’s still recording, still touring, and still drawing massive crowds — not only in Jamaica but across Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, and North America.

His performance in Lauderhill comes just months before his official anniversary celebration in Kingston, set for October 19th, 2025, during Jamaica’s Heroes Weekend at Sabina Park. For fans in South Florida — home to one of the largest Jamaican diaspora communities in the U.S. — this is a rare chance to see the icon live before the big milestone show.

The Solid As A Rock Concert isn’t just about Sizzla, though. It’s also a powerful showcase of Jamaican musical evolution. Sharing the stage will be the legendary Lady G, known for blazing a trail for women in dancehall; Admiral Tibet, whose foundation tunes still hold weight; and Etana, whose rich vocals and conscious lyrics have brought soul back to modern reggae.

“It’s not just another show, it’s a moment in history,” says the planning team. “To have Sizzla here during his 30th year is symbolic. His career started with fire, and he’s still burning bright.”

Hosted by the City of Lauderhill as part of its Jamaica Independence celebration, the event is expected to draw fans from across the region — from longtime reggae heads to younger listeners discovering Sizzla’s music for the first time.

Whether you grew up on Thank You Mama, marched to Solid As A Rock, or are just now learning about one of Jamaica’s most prolific voices, this concert is a chance to witness history in motion. August 3rd. Lauderhill. Sizzla Kalonji — still blazing after 30 years. Don’t miss it.
