Shenseea joins Rihanna, Tyla, and Cardi B on star-studded Smurfs soundtrack

Jamaican hitmaker Shenseea continues to make waves in global entertainment, this time landing a coveted spot on the official soundtrack of the upcoming Smurfs movie, alongside megastars Rihanna, Tyla, Cardi B, and DJ Khaled.

Her track, It’s My Party, is one of 14 featured songs on the soundtrack, which is set for release on June 13. It joins a high-powered lineup that includes Friend of Mine by Rihanna—who also stars as Smurfette and serves as a producer—Everything Goes With Blue by Tyla, and Higher Love featuring DESI TRILL, DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Natania, and Subhi.

The Smurfs film, slated for release on July 18, follows the beloved blue characters as they venture into the real world to rescue Papa Smurf, voiced by John Goodman, from the clutches of dark wizards Gargamel and Razamel. The voice cast is packed with household names, including James Corden, Sandra Oh, Jimmy Kimmel, Octavia Spencer, Nick Offerman, Daniel Levy, and music producer Marshmello. Directed by Chris Miller and written by Pam Brady, the film is being presented by Paramount Animation in association with Domain Entertainment.

Shenseea’s addition to the soundtrack comes on the heels of a string of high-profile music placements. She recently appeared on the Bob Marley: One Love film soundtrack with a reimagined version of No Woman No Cry—a project that went on to win Best Reggae Album at the 67th Grammy Awards. She also teamed up with Puerto Rican rapper Myke Towers for Bam Bam on the Bad Boys: Ride or Die soundtrack.

Her crossover appeal extends beyond cinema. In 2023, she joined forces with Grammy-winning reggae artist Koffee to produce Run Run for the official FIFA23 video game soundtrack.

With the combined star power of Rihanna, Shenseea, and Tyla, the Smurfs soundtrack is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about musical compilations of the summer. The fusion of music and animation is expected to be a cultural moment when the film hits theaters next month.
