Sean Paul’s 2006 chart-topping single When You Gonna Give It Up To Me, featuring American singer Keyshia Cole, has been awarded Silver certification in the United Kingdom.
The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) issued the accolade on Friday, November 22, recognizing over 200,000 units sold, as verified by the Official Charts Company.
This latest milestone adds to the enduring legacy of Sean Paul’s The Trinity album, a project celebrated for its seamless fusion of Dancehall and mainstream pop. Released during a period of peak global success for the Jamaican superstar, the album produced several hits that cemented his status as an international music icon.
When You Gonna Give It Up To Me was produced by Donovan “Don Corleon” Bennett, who also worked with Paul on other standout tracks like Never Gonna Be The Same, Break It Off featuring Rihanna, and Eye Deh A Mi Knee. While the song was initially a solo effort, the decision to release a version with Keyshia Cole coincided with its inclusion on the soundtrack for the 2006 dance film Step Up.
The song peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 during its 22-week run and reached No. 31 on the UK Official Singles Chart, where it spent eight weeks. It has also been certified Gold in Canada, with sales exceeding 40,000 units.
Sean Paul’s The Trinity remains a landmark album, featuring other global hits such as Temperature, certified 3x Platinum in the US and 2x Platinum in the UK, and We Be Burnin’, which holds Platinum status in the US and Gold in the UK. The album itself has achieved 2x Platinum certification in the US (over 2 million units) and Platinum certification in the UK (300,000 units).
