Dancehall artiste Popcaan was fined $6,000 when he appeared in court on Wednesday to answer to charges related to an incident at his St. Thomas concert last month.
Popcann pleaded guilty to using indecent language, disorderly conduct, using abusive and calumnious language, and issuing a threat to police officers. He was fined $1,500 for each of the charges.
He, however, declined the opportunity to apologize to the police.
A verbal dispute erupted on stage at the December 23 event between the artiste and lawmen, when law enforcement pulled the plug on the event minutes before 5:00 AM.
Police said the show was originally scheduled to end at 4:00 am, and the show benefitted from a bonus hour.
Popcaan, a native of St. Thomas, indicated that he may move the event to the National Stadium in the near future. He said that St Thomas will never be better if the parish continues to endure what he believes is unjust treatment from authorities.
The deejay is to return to court on February 9 at which time the court is expected to make a decision regarding breaches of the Noise Abatement Act.
