Minna LaFortune submits ‘Caribbean Christmas’ for Grammy consideration

Minna LaFortune has officially entered her holiday album, Caribbean Christmas, for the 67th Grammy Awards. The album, which has received widespread acclaim, has been submitted in the Best Reggae Album category, while the single “Christmas is the Reason” is in the running for Best Global Music Performance.

Caribbean Christmas offers a vibrant fusion of Caribbean sounds, blending reggae, soca, calypso, ska, and waltz to celebrate the holiday season. LaFortune, making her debut in holiday music, has captured the essence of Christmas with a focus on family, peace, and nostalgia. The opening track, “It’s a Caribbean Christmas,” sets the festive tone, inviting listeners into a joyful celebration of holiday traditions.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, and now based in Brooklyn, New York, LaFortune has transitioned from a professional career to pursue her lifelong passion for music. Her involvement with the Caribbean Diaspora and mentorship activities highlights her deep community ties. Reflecting on her work, LaFortune describes Caribbean Christmas as “a labor of love” that came straight from her heart.

The single “Christmas is the Reason” features an animated music video by Shantel Bradford, available on LaFortune’s YouTube channel. The album was produced by Lee Holness at The Art of Music Online Media Studio.

With her roots in music and poetry, LaFortune’s Caribbean Christmas showcases her artistic versatility and dedication to sharing the cultural richness of the Caribbean. Her Grammy submission adds to the excitement surrounding this debut holiday album, which continues to bring joy to listeners worldwide.
