Karl O’Brian Williams, a three-time Actor Boy Award winner, joins the cast of the American Premiere presentation of Alwin Bully’s Caribbean drama McBee, alongside Miranda Melhado from Amazon Prime’s Amityville Vampire and Emilio Evans from Allblk network’s Makeup X Breakup.
They join previously announced actors Luke Forbes and Denise Hunt for the one-night-only production scheduled for Sunday, June 23, at 7 p.m. at the Jamaica Performing Arts (JPAC) in Jamaica Queens. The evening kicks off with a complimentary Golden Krust Caribbean Cuisine Reception at 5:30 p.m.
This event pays tribute to the late playwright Alwin Bully and is part of the annual Caribbean American Heritage Month celebrations in New York City every June. David Heron, a Broadway World Award winner, serves as the Producer and Director of the project.
Set on an unnamed Caribbean island in the recent past, McBee follows the story of husband and wife politicians Allan and Alice McBee (portrayed by Forbes and Hunt, respectively). Allan encounters three mysterious Rastafarians on his way home on general election night, who predict he will become Prime Minister. However, the couple’s ambition leads them down a path of deceit and betrayal, with unforeseen consequences for themselves and their country.
Williams takes on the role of Prime Minister Vere Duncan Sr., while Melhado plays young politician Antoinette Cross and Evans portrays politician Bernard Bannis, Allan McBee’s close colleague.
Williams, a Jamaican actor, playwright, director, and educator, has received multiple Actor Boy Awards and is renowned for his commitment to arts education and social justice through theater.
Melhado, also Jamaican, has earned acclaim for her roles in film and stage productions, including Amityville Vampire and From Yard- The Series. Evans, born to Jamaican parents in the USA, is known for his work on television series like Makeup X Breakup and Law and Order Organized Crime, as well as stage productions such as Black Angels Over Tuskegee and The Rope and The Cross.
