Reggae fans are in for a night of resounding celebration at the 41st International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) returning to South Florida on Friday, March 22 at the Lauderdale Performing Arts Center (LPAC).
One of the most anticipated highlights of the evening will be the special tribute to the esteemed Honorable Dr. Alfarita “Rita” Marley, the mother of reggae and widow of the legendary Bob Marley, with renowned female reggae stars and family members converging to salute her remarkable contributions to the genre.
Additionally, reggae icon Freddie McGregor will be honored with a special tribute, presented by his son Chino, and celebrated attorney-at-law Ben Crump will receive the IRAWMA Freedom Fighter Award.
The event is slated to feature performances, presentations, and appearances by a stellar lineup of artists and personalities, including Teejay, Spice, Byron Messia, Valiant, Christopher Martin, Pablo YG, Glen Washington, D’Angel, Ajaeze, Naomi Achu, Nonini, Sons of Mystro, Sharon Wiles, Vision Band, Marcia, and many more. Hosted by Comedians Julie Mango and Rohan Gunter, along with media personality, Candice Buchanan, the event promises to be a night of entertainment and inspiration.
“We are proud to continue our tradition of honoring the best of reggae and world music for over forty years,” said Dr. Ephraim Martin, president and producer of IRAWMA who is celebrating his Golden 50th anniversary in media, entertainment, and social justice activism. “With fifteen special honors and forty nominated categories, we remain committed to upholding the integrity of IRAWMA by recognizing excellence without compromise.”
Limited seats are still available for the event, with VIP Red Carpet arrivals scheduled for 7 pm and the showcase beginning at 8:30 pm.
