The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded the certification on Wednesday, September 18, after the song achieved the equivalent of 500,000 units sold in the U.S., combining both sales and streaming figures.

This marks the Jamaican singer’s first Gold certification in the American market. Eternal Light, released in October 2019, was praised by Free Nationals drummer Callum Connor at the time, who highlighted Chronixx’s unique creative input: “It was a pleasure to work with Chronixx on Eternal Light. The melody ideas he comes up with are unlike anyone else. They are totally different from the usual R&B pop writers we work with.”

The track, co-written by Chronixx and Free Nationals keyboardist Ron “T.Nava” Avant, features soulful vocals from Chronixx paired with the band’s signature instrumentation. With lyrics promoting positivity and love, the song’s uplifting message shines through in the chorus: “Forever shining this light / We keep it blazin’, yeah.”

Eternal Light was the fourth single from Free Nationals’ self-titled debut album and joins two other Gold-certified singles from the project: Time (featuring Mac Miller and Kali Uchis) and Beauty and Essex (featuring Daniel Caesar and Unknown Mortal Orchestra). The album was also nominated for Best Progressive R&B Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards.

Chronixx is no stranger to international success, with his popular song Who Knows (featuring Protoje) already certified Silver in the UK. His other well-known hits include Here Comes Trouble, Skankin’ Sweet, Likes, and They Don’t Know.
