Buju Banton ignites BET Experience with first LA show in over 20 years

Reggae icon Buju Banton made a powerful return to Los Angeles last night, headlining the opening night of the BET Experience 2025 at the Hollywood Palladium. The performance marked the Grammy winner’s first show in the city in more than two decades and drew a sold-out crowd eager to witness his long-awaited comeback.

Taking the stage with his signature rebel energy and commanding presence, Banton delivered a career-spanning set that reminded fans—both longtime devotees and newcomers—why he remains one of reggae’s most enduring figures. Known as “The Gargamel,” the Jamaican artist has spent over 30 years in the music industry, and Wednesday’s performance reaffirmed his status as a global cultural force.

Presented by SheaMoisture, the BET Experience is a multi-day celebration of Black culture, blending music, comedy, and community events ahead of the BET Awards on June 9. Buju Banton’s performance kicked off the festivities with a powerful testament to the global reach and staying power of reggae music.

The crowd, buzzing with anticipation, responded in kind to every beat and lyric. From socially conscious anthems to dancehall classics, Buju’s message-driven music filled the Palladium with both nostalgia and urgency—proof of reggae’s relevance in today’s cultural moment.

Next, Banton will make history in Las Vegas on June 7, when he becomes the first reggae dancehall artist to headline at Planet Hollywood. The concert marks his debut in the city and continues a rare string of U.S. appearances from the legendary performer.

As Buju Banton continues this selective stateside tour, each show feels more like a cultural event than a concert. Rooted in consciousness, culture, and resistance, his performances serve as powerful reminders of the movement he represents—and the fire he continues to ignite across generations.
