Dancehall star Aidonia is celebrating two decades in the music business with a bang—and he’s doing it in both the United States and Jamaica.
Following a massive turnout at UBS Arena in New York over the weekend, where he was joined by a heavyweight cast including Sizzla, Mavado, Cham, Shenseea, Govana, and Jada Kingdom, the deejay is now bringing the fire home.
The Jamaican leg of Aidonia’s 20th anniversary concert is set to ignite Sabina Park in Kingston on Friday, May 10, with a lineup that mirrors the magnitude of his influence in dancehall. Fans can expect high-energy performances from confirmed acts such as Capleton, Bounty Killer, Ding Dong, Skeng, Valiant, Di Genius, Rajah Wild, and Kraff. Capleton, known for hits like “Jah Jah City” and “That Day Will Come”, was the first official headliner announced, signaling a night filled with dancehall greatness.
Aidonia, born Sheldon Lawrence, first stormed onto the scene in the early 2000s with a lyrical dexterity and commanding delivery that earned him quick recognition. His breakthrough came with tracks like “Lolly” and “Fi Di Jockey”, which not only dominated local airwaves but also found footing on international charts. Known for his gritty lyrical style blended with smooth delivery, Aidonia carved out a lane that has influenced a new generation of dancehall stars.
In addition to being a prolific hitmaker, Aidonia has long been praised for his stage presence, lyrical versatility, and ability to balance hardcore dancehall with commercially successful anthems. Over the years, he’s collaborated with top producers and artists, and played a crucial role in pushing forward the careers of acts like Govana, his protégé and fellow 4th Genna member.
The New York edition of his anniversary concert was a resounding success, drawing thousands of fans and receiving praise for its stellar production and lineup—a promising preview of what’s to come in Kingston. The move to host dual celebratory events is a nod to Aidonia’s diaspora fanbase, who have supported his journey from Kingston sound systems to international stages.
