Her academic achievement was bolstered by the Olympic Solidarity Scholarship granted by the Jamaica Olympic Association.

Williams pursued her postgraduate studies across eminent European institutions, embracing the cultural fabric of countries like Belgium, the Czech Republic, Greece, Spain, and Germany.

Gymnast and scholar: Merging sports and ethics

Williams, who blazed trails in 2016 as Jamaica’s maiden gymnast at the Rio Olympic Games, has now channeled her drive into the academic world of sports ethics and integrity.

The core of her research dove into safeguarding regulations in American collegiate sports, presenting a comparative ethical analysis of Title IX and SafeSport.

Throughout her two-year academic expedition, Williams immersed herself in subjects like anti-doping policies, safeguarding in sports, corruption, and betting.

A fire to bring transformative change, especially within gymnastics and Jamaica, fueled her scholarly pursuits.

Embracing global networks and overcoming challenges

However, Williams believes that the entire experience, while daunting, was transformative, equipping her with skills such as project management.

Navigating the world of stereotypes was another profound revelation for Williams. The blend of her Jamaican heritage and American accent often became a topic of intrigue.

She stresses the importance of empathy and understanding in the diverse world and the need to see beyond stereotypes.

A future with LA28: Building bridges with communities

With her rich knowledge reservoir, Williams is now a pivotal part of LA28, the organizing committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.

Her role emphasizes enhancing community readiness for the mammoth event and fostering a symbiotic relationship between the Games and the Los Angeles populace.

Vision for Jamaica: Ethical governance and athlete-centric approach

Williams is resolute about using her insights to refine sports in Jamaica, particularly gymnastics.

She underscores ethical governance, accountability, and a leadership model that places athletes at its core as the linchpins to fortify the sporting structure in Jamaica. With an eye on the long game, she believes a robust foundation will pave the way for a brighter future for sports in Jamaica.
