Residents of Lauderdale Lakes may soon have to adhere to a new rule when they’re parking in their driveways. They may not be able to reverse in.
The Lauderdale Lakes commissioners are considering a proposal that license plates on cars parked in driveways would have to be visible from the street or sidewalk. Plates would also have to be visible on cars parked at night in front of a home.
The officials want to make it easier for code compliance and law enforcement to make sure parked cars are properly registered.
“The only way you know if that car is registered or has a license tag is if you see it,” Mayor Hazelle Rogers said.
But Commissioner Gloria Lewis said it’s not the city’s job to tell people how to park in their own yards. Some like to back in because they feel safer driving out, she said.
