Jamaican youngster Rushawn Ewears featured at Apple Event with hit song

Billboard-charting sensation, “Beautiful Day,” by Jamaican gospel artiste Jermaine Edwards has filled the virtual airwaves during the Apple iPhone 15 launch last month. This captivating rendition, however, was not performed by the acclaimed Jamaican artiste himself but by a Jamaican youngster named Rushawn Ewears.

The Apple Event debut

As the virtual 90-minute Apple Event unfolded, viewers worldwide, especially those from Jamaica were treated to a remarkable surprise. 

As Apple introduced its compelling short film titled “Another Birthday,” Ewears’ youthful voice took center stage. 

A song’s journey through time: From 2014 to the global stage 

“Beautiful Day,” Jermaine Edwards’ iconic creation, first graced the airwaves in 2014. 

Over the years, it has become more than just a song; it is a timeless masterpiece that has inspired countless artistes to pay homage through covers and remixes.

Social media stardom: A viral phenomenon 

In late 2022, a heartwarming moment from six years prior began making its rounds on social media.

It was a video clip of a young Rushawn Ewears delivering his rendition of “Beautiful Day” while attending Top Hill Primary School in St. Elizabeth. 

The Kiffness’s Reggae twist

Adding a unique Reggae twist to Ewears’ recording, a singer known by the name The Kiffness breathed new life into the song. 

This ingenious remix catapulted the track to even greater heights, resonating with audiences around the world.

Chart-topping success: From the UK to the US 

The official remix of “Beautiful Day,” featuring Ewears, enjoyed a remarkable run on the charts. 

In the United Kingdom, it spent a solid four weeks on the UK Singles chart, reaching its peak at an impressive No. 63. 

Across the Atlantic, in the United States, the song made its mark on the Billboard charts, climbing to No. 26 on the Billboard Afrobeats Songs chart and securing a prominent position at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot Gospel Song chart.
