The United States Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has detained a 45-year-old Jamaican man with a lengthy criminal record that spans over two decades.
The name of the individual has not been disclosed.
Reports are that the Jamaican has been noted for a series of aggravated felonies that have led to his arrest and pending deportation proceedings.
He was arrested outside his residence in Queens, New York, without incident, and according to ICE, will remain in custody.
A troubled past
Having entered the United States as a lawful permanent resident on April 6, 1993, the man was first convicted on November 19, 1998, according to reports.
Reports are that the Queens County Supreme Court convicted him for selling a controlled substance in the third degree and sentenced him to six years imprisonment.
Multiple convictions and sentences
On March 12, 1999, he was convicted by the Queens County Supreme Court of attempted murder and robbery in the first degree and sentenced to 12 years and six years of imprisonment, respectively.
In a separate incident on September 20, 1999, he was also convicted by the Nassau County Court in Long Island, for the offense of robbery in the second degree and sentenced and given a 15-year prison term.
Firearms conviction and prior offenses in Pennsylvania
Reports are that on November 10, 2022, the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York convicted him for brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence and sentenced him to time served.
Additionally, his criminal history includes convictions in Pennsylvania, where he faced consequences for retail theft in 1997 and for providing false identification to law enforcement in relation to drug possession in 2012.
