Volunteer Opportunity: 2nd Annual BMSD MLK Day of Service

MLK Day of Service

Broward Municipal Services District (BMSD) neighborhoods will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day of service performing community beautification projects and workforce development with on-site recruitment for jobs. The event is Saturday, January 13th from 8AM to 1:30PM at the Roosevelt Gardens Community Center, 2841 NW 11th Street, Fort Lauderdale.

Everyone is invited to join us and participate at the BMSD 2018 MLK Day of Service and community celebration. Volunteers are needed to paint homes, perform minor landscape improvements and participation in other community beautification projects. This is an excellent opportunity for students to earn community service hours.

Broward County provided funding for Rebuilding Together Broward to complete free exterior improvements on ten homes within the BMSD including exterior painting services and landscaping for elderly, veterans, and disabled residents, cleaning of vacant lots and general beautification activities. Also, BMSD residents 18 and over who are seeking work can apply with OIC of South Florida for jobs using the County’s Employment Self-Sufficiency Program. On-site applications for employment and program registration will be accepted. Teens and young adults can explore training opportunities with YouthBuild. YouthBuild is a comprehensive youth/young adult community strengthening, education and workforce development program.

Free morning and afternoon refreshments for volunteers will be provided compliments of Rebuilding Together Broward. Volunteers should bring appropriate clothing, hats and shoes to work outside, sunblock and gloves.
