The cancellation is a preventative measure as the government works to contain the VID-19, coronavirus which was confirmed on the island yesterday.

The news also comes a day after the government issued a travel ban on schools to attend the Penn Relays in the United States of America. The annual Digicel Grand Prix Finale, which was scheduled for Saturday, March 14, has also been cancelled.

Student-athletes that have been preparing since last year for CHAMPS will have to refocus for next year’s championships, or other sporting events later this year. CHAMPS is the largest school sports event in Jamaica, and often gives the opportunity for senior students to be scouted by coaches from International Universities.
