It’s Primary Election Day in Florida

Today, August 28 is Primary Election Day in Florida. Today, voters across the state will be culminating the election process which began on August 13, through the early voting process, and days before that through the mail-in process to elect representatives of both the Republican and Democratic parties to advance to the November 6 general elections. However, in some races, for example, judges, school board members, and county commissioners, some candidates will be elected today in the event they have no political opponents in the general elections.

Keen races for governor

Among the more closely watched races will be those to elect the Republican and Democrat candidate to vie against each other on the November 6 ballot to succeed Rick Scott as Florida governor.

Of the several candidates vying to be the Democratic candidate for governor, the race has turned out to be a close one between Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, former US Representative Gwen Graham, Former City of Miami Beach Mayor Phillip Levine and businessman Jeff Greene. Over the past few days the polls have shown Gillum, who is vying to be the state’s first black governor, making a strong late surge.

On the Republican side of the ballot it seems the race has whittled down to a close contest between Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adan Putman, and former Congressman Ron Desantis who has been endorsed by President Donald Trump.

Results around 10:00 pm

Polls opened at 7:00 am and will close at 7:00 pm. Results in most of the several races being contested should be known by around 10:00pm this evening. The results of the races in each county can be followed on the respective Supervisor of Election’s website in each county.
