Raphael Joseph, the Resident Ambassador representing the State of Grenada, on Wednesday signed the historic Samoa Agreement in the Kingdom of Belgium.
This agreement marks a significant milestone in the diplomatic relations between the European Union (EU) member states and the 79 countries comprising the Organization of African Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).
A Multinational endeavor
Head of Mission representatives from four other OACPS Member States: Burundi, Central African Republic, Niger, and St Kitts and Nevis also signed the agreement.
The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the OACPS, symbolizing the unity and cooperation among these diverse nations.
A comprehensive partnership
The Samoa Agreement encompasses a two-decade commitment aimed at advancing the socio-economic and cultural development of the ACP States.
Its overarching objective is to play a pivotal role in fostering peace, security, and the establishment of stable, democratic political environments within these nations.
Billions in funding allocated
To support the ambitious initiatives outlined in the agreement, the EU has committed to providing substantial financial backing.
The funding, amounting to billions of euros, will be allocated to various programs and projects designed to strengthen the bonds between the EU and OACPS nations.
