According to reports shortly after 3:09 a.m. that morning BSO Traffic Homicide Unit detectives were notified and responded to the scene of a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the 1600 block of East Atlantic Boulevard.

The preliminary on-scene investigation revealed Aamer Jawwad was driving a 2010 Honda CRV traveling eastbound on East Atlantic Boulevard in the left thru lane. According to Jawwad, the pedestrian was lying horizontally across the left thru lane. Jawwad stated the roadway was dark and he did not see the pedestrian until just before the impact. Investigators say Jawwad attempted to swerve his vehicle to avoid striking the pedestrian but was unable to do so. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded and pronounced the pedestrian deceased on scene.

According to investigators, at this time, there is no evidence that suggests the pedestrian was struck by another vehicle before he was hit by the 2010 Honda CRV.

The investigation is ongoing
