Lauderdale Lakes Mayor Hazelle Rogers is encouraging the Caribbean-American community in South Florida to take the COVID-19 vaccine, after receiving her final dose earlier this week.
The Jamaican-American Mayor received her first round of the COVID-19 vaccine three weeks ago and returned for the 2nd dose of the Pfizer vaccine on March 22. She was vaccinated at the Walmart Supercenter located at 3001 N. State Road in Lauderdale Lakes, FL.
“We all have to do our part to keep each other safe,” stated Mayor Rogers during the on-air interview.
As a result of collaboration with neighboring cities and the partnership with Walmart, 140 vaccines went into arms by the time the mayor arrived that morning and approximately 4676 running total were expected by the end of the day.
On March 22, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had also expanded the COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to residents over the age of 50. With the loosening of the statewide qualifications, more than a third of Floridians are now eligible to get a vaccine solely based on age at all vaccination sites in the state.
Beginning Monday, March 29, persons 40 and older can receive the COVID-19
vaccine and on the following Monday, April 5th, all persons 18 and older will be eligible to receive the vaccine.
The vaccines are also available at 150 CVS locations, 125 Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club locations, more than 70 Winn Dixie locations, and every single one of the 730 Publix pharmacies across Florida. Soon, the vaccine will also be available at more than 600 Walgreens pharmacies statewide.
Residents interested in getting the vaccine are encouraged to pre-register at www.myvaccine.fl.gov or call (866) 201-6313 to schedule an appointment.
Lauderdale Lakes residents can also dial (954) 535-2807 for the City to schedule their appointment.
Currently, with the Governor’s Executive Order 21-67 in effect, long-term care facility
residents and staff, persons 50 years and older, health care personnel with direct patient
contact and persons determined by a physician to be extremely vulnerable to COVID-19
can all be vaccinated and are encouraged to do so.
