The Jamaican women, who will be making their debut at the tournament, are in Group C and will play Brazil on June 9, Italy on June 14 and then Australia on June 18 in their final group game.

Menzies said the Reggae Girlz were itching to kick start their campaign after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Scotland in Scotland on Tuesday May 28.

“Everybody is upbeat, and they are ready to get back on to the training ground. They have not had training sessions in the last couple of days, so they are itching to get back on to the pitch.

While he said the team was upbeat, he stressed that the Girlz would have to maintain its discipline against Brazil to ensure a positive result.

“We have had films already being sorted out so we can see where we can exploit and just study their style.

“It does give us hope that they haven’t won a game in a long time, but we have to go in there and maintain our discipline and play the way we know how to play. Then we shouldn’t have a problem,” Menzies said.

“I think that we just have do a better job of keeping the ball and making sure that we just focus on individual assignments throughout the match in order to make sure that we come away with something from the game.”
