Lauderhill Jammers got the better of St. Bess for a second time this past weekend even as Tropics defeated Port St. Lucie as the South Florida Cricket competition continued.
On Sunday April 29th at John Stretch Park, St Bess won the toss and decided to take first strike. But struggling at 25 for 2 in 7.4 overs, O’Brian Jones and Brian Gayle came together and staged a recovery, taking the score to 141 for 3.
However, Jones soon went for 35, which included 3 fours and 1 six and Gayle soon followed for a well-played 66, including 7 fours and 2 sixes with the score at 143 for 4.
After their departure, wickets kept on tumbling at regular intervals and St. Bess was eventually bowled out 175 in 37.2 overs. the only other batsman to get into double figure was Ifran Mohammed with 11 runs.
The pick of the bowlers for Lauderhill Jammers were Adam Khan, who bagged 5 for 37 and David Brathwaite, 2 for 37.
In reply, Lauderhill Jammers got off to a flying start, posting 95 runs before the wicket of Simeon Pierre fell for 27, which included 3 fours and 1 six in the 12th over.
Lauderhill Jammers then went on to reach 176 runs in 26.1 overs, losing only 4 wickets.
Mark ‘Soup Bone’ Johnson top scored with 53, which included 6 fours and two massive sixes. Other contributors were: Shawn Finley, 27 not-out, which included 3 fours and 1 six while Elvis Watson reached 23 with 2 fours. Rajesh Sharmoi added 11 to help Lauderhill Jammers win by 6 wickets.
Bowling for St. Bess, Chrishna Graham picked up 2 for 30 and Sherwlyn Powell 2 for 46.
Tropics win
Meanwhile, over at the MAQ Ground, Port St. Lucie won the toss and decided to bat, posting a paltry 126 runs in 33.5 overs off their allotted 40 overs. Charles Reid added 41 and Richard Louis, 21.
Bowling for Tropics United, Marcel Graham bagged 2 for 10; Terry Mills 2 for 28 and Olive Taffe 2 for 36.
In reply, Tropics United reached 127 for 2 in 28.5 overs with Ramario Forbes contributing 52 no-out, Nicholas Mittoo added 34 and Keith Bazil, 11. Bowling for Port St. Lucie, Richard Louis picked up 1 for 24 and Elton Tucker 1 for 44 as Tropics United won by 8 wickets.

There will no game in the competition this Mother’s Day week-end. However, Southshore Cricket Club and Ambassador Cricket Club will be having their Annual Mother’s Day Celebration at Miramar Regional Park South, Pavilion #1 and John Stretch Park, between South Bay & Clewiston on US 27. The public is invited to attend.
