Some houses will be built on land that has been assigned for the Unity Housing Solutions Program.  Under the program, houses will also be constructed for people who have land but need assistance to build.

“We have decided at the Cabinet level to accept the proposal by those who are doing the planning that in the first six months we will be building clusters.  In other words, we will be building in areas of tens and twenties all around the country.  In the period following and up to 18 months, we will accommodate individuals on land, which is allocated across the country…Following the clusters, we will be doing individual units,” Hamilton said.

The St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board has provided a $50 million loan to the Federal Government for housing development in St. Kitts via the National Housing Corporation (NHC).

The Unity Housing Solutions Program will see the National Housing Corporation supervise the construction of 300 homes throughout St. Kitts.  The affordable homes will have bigger bedrooms and bathrooms than houses built under previous NHC programs.

“The areas have been identified as Taylor’s, Wellington Road, Pine Gardens [Shadwell], LaGuerite [Buckley’s], the Abbotts Extension [West Farm], Green Acres [Half Way Tree], Westin Meadows [Half Way Tree], Taoyuan Heights [Challengers], Stadium View [Sandy Point], Crab Hill [Sandy Point], Rawlins [St. Paul’s], Saddler’s Park, Lavington [Saddler’s area], Ottley’s, Sea Breeze Manor [Ottley’s/Lodge], Upper Stone Castle [Tabernacle], Estridge [Mansion area], Conaree, Key’s, Stapleton [St. Peter’s], and Cunningham Heights [Cayon]. We will be building in all of these areas in accordance with the needs of the people living there,” he said.
