Bringing Home the Tradition of Giving Thanks and Celebrating with Family
Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Jean Monestime brought Thanksgiving cheer to over 3,000 residents in the second District during his annual turkey giveaway on Sunday, Nov. 20.
Chairman Monestime distributed the turkeys at Arcola Lakes Park Senior Center and Oak Grove Park. A migrant to South Florida from Haiti, Monestime serves a district largely populated by low and low-middle income residents, including a large Haitian-American population.
“To me, this is so much more than giving away turkeys; this is about ensuring that every family has the opportunity to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner,” said Monestime. “Thanksgiving is a time to count our blessings and come together as a community in a spirit of thanks.”

Monestime also expressed thanks to community partners, volunteers and various community-based agencies that participated in the food distribution efforts.
“None of this would be possible without the selfless dedication of our community partners and volunteers,” Monestime added.
