Two people were rescued Tuesday morning after a small plane made an emergency landing in the Everglades in western Broward County, officials confirmed.
The single-engine Cessna 172N Skyhawk, registered to Flight Answers LLC of Miami Lakes, was en route to North Perry Airport when it went down just before 9 a.m. west of Pembroke Pines. The pilot had reported engine issues before landing on a dirt road around 8:20 a.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Sky 10 footage showed the aircraft standing upright on its nose shortly before 9:30 a.m.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael B. Kane said neither of the two people onboard was injured. They were taken to Everglades Holiday Park after being transported by rescuers in airboats. Earlier reports noted they were also brought to a command station at Holly Lakes mobile home park in Pembroke Pines.
The plane had departed from North Perry Airport prior to the incident. No other details have been released. The FAA is investigating.
