The governments of Cuba and Peru last week signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in the tourism sector, marking a significant bilateral step forward in Latin American tourism development.
The agreement was signed in the Peruvian capital by Cuban Deputy Tourism Minister Yamily Aldama and Peru’s Tourism and Foreign Trade representative Desilu León.
The MOU aims to enhance collaboration in areas such as professional training, promotion of tourist destinations, and other strategic initiatives designed to improve tourism sector performance in both countries.
During the official meeting, the two officials discussed potential avenues for bilateral cooperation, including Cuba’s extensive experience in developing the sun-and-beach tourism model—a segment that Peru is currently looking to expand.
While in Lima, Deputy Minister Aldama also held meetings with travel agencies and tour operators to promote Cuba’s latest tourism offerings and business opportunities.
Aldama is leading a Cuban delegation attending the 70th Meeting of the United Nations Regional Tourism Commission for the Americas. The high-level conference is focusing on the growing role of artificial intelligence in shaping tourism across the region.
