“Come Over,” the 2020 collaboration between British-Jamaican singer Jorja Smith and Jamaican dancehall artist Popcaan, has been officially certified gold in the United Kingdom. The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) announced the certification last Friday, marking sales and streaming equivalents of 400,000 units.
Jorja Smith, born in 1997 to a British mother and Jamaican father, saw “Come Over” reach #35 on the UK Singles Chart and #27 on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart. The song’s success further cements Smith’s rising international profile.
Popcaan, affectionately known as the Unruly deejay, has cultivated a strong and loyal fanbase in the UK over the years. His infectious blend of dancehall and contemporary sounds has resonated deeply, particularly among younger audiences and the vibrant Caribbean diaspora across cities like London, Birmingham, and Manchester. His energetic performances and collaborations have helped cement his status as one of the leading figures in bringing dancehall to mainstream UK audiences.
This certification marks Popcaan’s second single to earn gold status in the UK, following “I Know There’s Going to Be Good Times” by Jamie xx featuring Popcaan and Young Thug.
The recognition highlights the growing influence of Caribbean artists within the British music scene and the continued crossover success of dancehall and reggae-infused tracks.
