Naomi Cowan channels soulful new single ‘True Lies’

Naomi Cowan, a dynamic singer-songwriter and daughter of Jamaican music legends Carlene Davis and Tommy Cowan, is carving her own powerful path in the reggae and soul landscape with the release of her latest single, “True Lies.” The emotionally charged track, produced by renowned UK producer Toddla T, is the first offering from her upcoming album.

Rooted in a rich musical heritage, Naomi continues to honor her legacy while asserting her unique voice. Her new single delves into the grey areas of love — where passion, secrecy, and vulnerability intertwine. “‘True Lies’ explores the complexity of emotional truth,” Cowan shared. “It’s about those moments when love and deception coexist, and you’re left questioning what’s real and what’s not.”

Toddla T, best known for his work with the likes of Stefflon Don, Stormzy, Wiley, and Major Lazer, brings a modern, genre-blurring edge to the production. His collaboration with Naomi results in a soulful, layered sound that complements her introspective lyrics and smooth vocal delivery.

Naomi has been steadily building a catalogue of standout tracks over the years. Songs like “Paradise Plum,” which was an instant fan favorite, and “Climbing,” a stirring anthem about resilience, have solidified her as one of the most promising voices of her generation. Her musical style bridges the gap between contemporary reggae, soul, and pop, and her performances always carry the grace and fire that reflect both her lineage and her individuality.

Earlier this year, Naomi reached new heights on the global stage with her role as Marcia Griffiths in the blockbuster biopic Bob Marley: One Love. Her performance was praised for its authenticity and depth, further proving her versatility and artistic maturity.

Music is in Naomi’s DNA. Her mother, gospel-reggae icon Carlene Davis, and her father, veteran producer and cultural ambassador Tommy Cowan, are towering figures in Jamaican music. Davis, whose career spans over four decades, remains one of the most respected female voices in Caribbean gospel music. In 2025, she was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards. Meanwhile, Cowan, whose work with Bob Marley and other reggae pioneers helped shape the global image of Jamaican music, continues to be honored for his enduring contributions. This year, he was celebrated by the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) with a Pioneer Award.

As Naomi Cowan steps boldly into a new era with “True Lies”, she brings with her the soul of a seasoned artist, the fire of a new generation, and the legacy of reggae royalty. Her journey is one to watch,  and to listen to — as she continues to redefine what it means to carry a legacy while creating one of her own.

“True Lies” is now available on all major streaming platforms.
