The Grenada National Cricket Stadium is undergoing a dramatic transformation, preparing to host the highly anticipated Test match between West Indies and Australia from July 3–7, 2025—a marquee fixture that marks the island’s reemergence as a premier venue on the global cricket stage.

On Wednesday, April 2, key leadership from Cricket West Indies (CWI)—including CEO Chris Dehring, President Dr. Kishore Shallow, and Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe—toured the venue to witness firsthand the stadium’s upgrades.

Guided by Delma Thomas, Minister of Sport, the CWI delegation received detailed insights into the scope of enhancements that have been underway in preparation for this landmark event.

A vision of excellence

Following the tour, CEO Chris Dehring did not hold back his admiration for the government’s commitment and the quality of work being delivered.

“The Government of Grenada’s investment in this venue is commendable on multiple levels,” said Dehring. “Quality infrastructure is essential not only for maintaining high standards of play but also for enhancing the overall fan experience. Given that, I’m very pleased with the ongoing rehabilitation efforts. The work being done is of a high standard, and I’m satisfied with the facility’s condition at this stage.”

From the lush green outfield to revamped spectator amenities, the stadium is being shaped into a beacon of Caribbean cricketing excellence. These enhancements reflect a strategic effort to deliver both a world-class player environment and an unforgettable fan experience.

Lighting the way for the future

Perhaps most exciting is the potential for the venue to evolve beyond a traditional Test arena. Dehring offered a glimpse into what lies ahead for Grenada’s cricketing future.

“Once the lights are in place, this facility could become a key venue for day/night Test cricket in the future, adding a new dimension to international matches in Grenada,” he noted, hinting at a new era of twilight drama and primetime excitement.

The CWI CEO was also particularly struck by the modern visual displays, adding, “I must also share; these are some of the most impressive screens I’ve seen anywhere in the world.”

With cutting-edge technology enhancing the matchday atmosphere, the stadium is setting a new benchmark for regional cricket infrastructure.

A regional leader in cricket infrastructure

Grenada’s ongoing investment in its cricket facilities not only reinforces its status as a top-tier sporting destination in the Caribbean but also signals its readiness to host global talent and fans alike.

As Cricket West Indies continues its broader mission to elevate the standard of the sport across the region, Grenada’s approach offers a powerful model of partnership between sport and government.

With the venue upgrades nearing completion, excitement is building toward a historic summer of cricket when the West Indies square off against Australia in a five-day showdown sure to captivate fans worldwide.

Tickets now available for the West Indies vs Australia Test

Tickets for the second Test match of the series, to be held at the Grenada National Cricket Stadium, are now available online at tickets.windiescricket.com.

In a family-friendly move to boost youth engagement, children under the age of sixteen can attend the match for free—a gesture that aligns with CWI’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of cricket lovers.

As July draws closer, Grenada stands ready—not just to host cricket, but to make a statement. With modern upgrades, visionary leadership, and the backing of regional cricket’s highest authorities, the island is poised to deliver a world-class experience that blends heritage, passion, and innovation.

The countdown begins. International cricket is coming home to Grenada. And this time, it returns in style.
