Jamaican-born 9/11 survivor Pastor Oral Patrick launches motivational book tour

Pastor Oral Patrick, a Jamaican-born author, minister, and two-time 9/11 survivor, has launched the Introducing Oral Patrick motivational speaking tour. The tour promotes his health and wellness book, Restorative Healing Begins With Rest, co-authored with his daughter, Deborah Patrick.

The book details Patrick’s health challenges stemming from his volunteer service at Ground Zero, where he assisted first responders for months after the September 11 attacks. Remarkably, Patrick narrowly escaped being at the World Trade Center during the attacks, as he was fired from his job on September 10, 2001, less than 24 hours before the tragedy. Through personal anecdotes and practical methods, Patrick shares how focusing on rest—of the mind, body, and spirit—helped him recover from debilitating illnesses.

The Introducing Oral Patrick tour features presentations at churches, colleges, and community spaces across the New York Tri-State area. Patrick recounts his transformative experiences surrounding 9/11 and offers insights into health and wellness strategies from his book. The events also include audience Q&A sessions and book signings.

Patrick says the idea for the tour came after an overwhelming response to a media campaign promoting the book during this year’s 9/11 commemorations. “The story of surviving 9/11 twice resonated with so many people,” he shared. “First, I was spared by not being in the towers that day, and then I recovered from illnesses caused by volunteering at Ground Zero. This tour is for anyone facing physical, emotional, or spiritual struggles—or those seeking to maintain optimal health.”

The tour launched in November at Grace Episcopal Church in Jamaica, Queens, hosted by Father Rudolph Anthony. Patrick reported strong interest, with many attendees purchasing multiple copies of the book for loved ones.

Born in Old Harbour, Jamaica, Patrick moved to the U.S. in 1987. Following his firing from a Computer Systems Engineer role on September 10, 2001, he watched the Twin Towers collapse the next day and later volunteered at Ground Zero. Months of exposure to toxins left him with severe health issues, leading him to explore natural healing methods. His breakthrough came when he embraced the healing power of rest—a concept he now shares as the pastor of Word of Wisdom Church in Teaneck, New Jersey.

Patrick’s message is simple yet profound: “Rest is not merely sleep. It’s about nurturing the body, mind, and spirit with balance, gratitude, and self-acceptance.”
