Port of Spain, Trinidad – In a dazzling display of all-round brilliance, Rahkeem Cornwall delivered a match-winning performance to lead the Leeward Islands Hurricanes to a commanding six-wicket victory over the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) Marooners at the Queen’s Park Oval on Sunday.
Cornwall’s heroic exploits with both bat and ball cemented the Hurricanes’ place in the CG United Super50 Cup semifinals as the round-robin phase concluded.
Cornwall’s dominance with the ball
The burly all-rounder wreaked havoc on the Marooners’ batting line-up, claiming six wickets for just 20 runs, a spell that sent shockwaves through their innings. The Marooners crumbled to a meager 151 all out in 36 overs despite valiant knocks from Jonathan Drakes (48) and Shaqkere Parris (38). Cornwall’s bowling brilliance kept the Hurricanes firmly in control, earning him widespread applause from teammates and fans alike.
When it was time to chase, Cornwall unleashed a ferocious onslaught with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 84 off just 39 balls. His breathtaking innings, laced with towering sixes and scorching boundaries, catapulted the Hurricanes to 154 for six in only 19.4 overs, sealing a memorable victory. Cornwall’s heroics overshadowed a commendable effort by CCC seamer Akeem Jordan, who picked up five wickets for 33 runs in a spirited bowling display.

Hurricanes set sights on semi-final clash
The victory propelled the Hurricanes to third place in the standings with 51 points, setting up a tantalizing semi-final encounter against the Jamaica Scorpions on Thursday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba. The Scorpions, with 53 points, edged out the Hurricanes in the standings, promising a fierce battle between the two sides.
The first semi-final, to be played on Wednesday, will feature tournament leaders Trinidad and Tobago Red Force (63 points) facing off against the Barbados Pride (46 points) at the same venue.
Rain dashes Volcanoes’ hopes in St. Augustine
Meanwhile, at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground in St. Augustine, inclement weather dashed the hopes of the Windward Islands Volcanoes, as their clash against the West Indies Academy ended in a no-result. The Volcanoes posted an imposing 278 for five, powered by an unbeaten 70 from Sunil Ambris, a solid 55 from Jeremy Solozano, and a gritty 52 from Shadrack Descarte.
The Academy team, responding with an impressive start, reached 69 without loss before persistent rain washed out play, leaving both sides with a sense of unfulfilled potential.
