Ottley and Jangoo’s record stand powers Red Force to dominance over Pride

Port of Spain, Trinidad – In a dazzling display of batting brilliance, Kjorn Ottley and Amir Jangoo powered defending champions Trinidad and Tobago Red Force to a commanding nine-wicket triumph over Barbados Pride in their high-stakes Super50 Cup showdown on Saturday.

The duo’s unbroken 173-run partnership, punctuated by Ottley’s majestic 112 not out and Jangoo’s scintillating 93 not out, made light work of the Pride’s 258-9. The Red Force breezed to victory, reaching 259-1 in just 43.3 overs, solidifying their top spot in the standings with 64 points.

Early blow, mid-innings revival, and sudden collapse

Barbados Pride, sent in to bat, suffered an early setback as Zachary McCaskie was run out on the second ball, leaving the score at a precarious 2-1. However, the seasoned pair of Leniko Boucher and Raymon Reifer orchestrated a remarkable recovery, compiling a sparkling 136-run partnership for the second wicket.

Boucher’s authoritative knock of 81 off 72 balls, featuring 10 boundaries and a six, provided the backbone of the innings. Reifer, equally impressive, contributed a steady 70 off 94 deliveries, steering the Pride to a promising 176-2.

The momentum shifted dramatically when off-spinner Mark Deyal bowled Boucher to secure a vital breakthrough. Deyal struck again, dismissing Reifer, and the floodgates opened. The Pride crumbled under pressure, losing seven wickets for just 67 runs as Yannic Cariah dismantled the lower order with a match-defining 4-53, while Deyal chipped in with 3-32.

Ottley and Jangoo: The perfect pairing

Chasing 259, the Red Force’s top order delivered a masterclass in dominance. Openers Ottley and Tion Webster laid the foundation with a brisk 86-run stand inside 14 overs, with Webster hammering a lively 41 off 33 balls, including three sixes and as many fours.

Off-spinner Kemar Smith managed the only breakthrough for the Pride, dismissing Webster, but that was where their success ended.

Ottley, displaying exquisite timing and composure, crafted an unbeaten 112 off 132 balls, punctuated by 10 boundaries and a six. Jangoo complemented him perfectly, finishing just shy of his century with a polished 93 not out, peppered with eight fours and two sixes. The duo’s relentless assault left the Pride bowlers bereft of answers as they failed to rein in the Red Force juggernaut.

Pride falters under pressure

Pride skipper Kyle Mayers employed no fewer than eight bowlers in an attempt to break the partnership, but none could make an impact. With their bowlers unable to penetrate, the Pride could only watch as Ottley and Jangoo dismantled their attack with ease.

The crushing defeat relegated Barbados Pride to third place in the standings with 46 points, while Jamaica Scorpions secured the second spot with 53 points. The final semi-final berth went to the Leeward Islands Hurricanes whi defeated the Windward Islands Volcanoes to finish in fourth place.

The Red Force’s emphatic victory sets the stage for an electrifying semi-final phase. They enter as the team to beat, bolstered by a formidable combination of batting firepower and clinical bowling. Barbados Pride will need to regroup quickly to keep their title hopes alive as the tournament reaches its crescendo.
