The track pays homage to Yellowman’s 1983 dancehall classic “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt,” a song that defined an era and established Yellowman as a legend in the genre.

Originally produced by Henry ‘Junjo’ Lawes and backed by the iconic Roots Radics band, Yellowman’s hit was a staple in the dancehall scene, solidifying his influence as one of the genre’s pioneers. Released under the legendary Greensleeves label, the track brought international recognition to dancehall, influencing future generations of artists, including Kartel.

Kartel’s rendition of “Nobody Move,” rediscovered in the Major Lazer vault, brings a modern twist to the timeless anthem. His distinctive lyrical flow is paired with an airy reggae beat reminiscent of Major Lazer’s 2012 hit “Get Free.” The track’s nostalgic yet fresh sound is perfectly captured in a grainy, VHS-inspired animated video by Major Lazer’s visual artist Ferry Gouw, paying tribute to the spirit of 1980s dancehall while appealing to a contemporary audience.

Vybz Kartel, often hailed as one of the most influential dancehall artists of his generation, brings his unmistakable style to the project, bridging the gap between dancehall’s rich history and its evolving future.

Major Lazer, known for blending global sounds with electronic beats, has played a significant role in introducing Caribbean music to mainstream audiences. The group, led by Diplo, has collaborated with top artists from around the world, fusing dancehall, reggae, and electronic music into chart-topping hits.

“Nobody Move” serves as a celebration of dancehall’s legacy, a nod to Yellowman’s influence, and a testament to the genre’s ability to adapt and thrive across generations. As dancehall continues to inspire new waves of artists, this collaboration between Vybz Kartel and Major Lazer reminds fans of the genre’s deep roots while pointing toward its dynamic future.
