The Knight Riders secured a commanding 30-run victory, thanks to significant contributions from captain Kieron Pollard and the explosive Andre Russell.

Pollard played a vital role with a solid 42 runs, while Russell electrified the crowd with a quick-fire 31 off just 12 balls, propelling the Knight Riders to a challenging total of 175 for seven from their 20 overs. Player-of-the-Match Akeal Hosein then dismantled the Royals’ batting line-up, ensuring the outcome was never in doubt as the visitors stumbled to 145 for nine.

Struggling at 13 for two

Hosein made an immediate impact, claiming the first three wickets and leaving the Royals reeling. He dismissed Kadeem Alleyne for just two runs, catching him off a mistimed push straight to Jason Roy at cover. The crucial wicket of in-form opener Quinton de Kock soon followed, with the South African attempting to clear the boundary but finding himself caught for eight, leaving the Royals struggling at 13 for two.

A partnership between Kevin Wickham and Alick Athanaze brought a brief respite, as they combined for 53 runs for the second wicket. However, just as they appeared to gain momentum, Wickham fell to a simple return catch to Hosein after scoring 23 off 23 balls. Athanaze looked poised for a half-century but was dismissed for 44 when he pulled a short delivery from pacer Chris Jordan directly to Roy, leaving the score at 85 for four in the 13th over.

David Miller attempted to counterattack with a brisk 30 runs off 15 balls, hitting three sixes and two fours, but his dismissal, caught off Waqar Salamkheil, effectively ended any hopes of a Royals comeback. Captain Rovman Powell struggled to find form with a pedestrian 18 off 21 balls, as no other batsman reached double digits in a dismal batting display.

Impressive figures

Hosein concluded his spell with impressive figures of 3 for 15 from four overs, while Jordan and Terrance Hinds contributed with 3 for 33 and 2 for 22, respectively.

Earlier, the Knight Riders faced early adversity, losing Jason Roy to the third ball of the innings and falling to 35 for three after losing Nicholas Pooran (27) and Shaqkere Parris (5). However, Keacy Carty’s solid 32, in conjunction with Pollard and Russell, rescued the innings. The trio formed a crucial 70-run partnership for the fourth wicket, pushing their score past the 100 mark.

Carty eventually fell to Naveen-ul-Haq, and Pollard was dismissed by Maheesh Theekshana. Russell then took charge, launching a barrage of boundaries, including a four and a six off consecutive balls against Theekshana and two massive sixes off Jason Holder.

In the end, tailenders Jordan and Hinds added 21 runs in the last two overs, helping the Knight Riders to finish with a flourish. Theekshana and ul-Haq both claimed three wickets for the Royals, but it was not enough to avert another defeat.
