This year’s Junior Carnival, presented by TD Bank and hosted by Visit Lauderdale, promises a rich celebration of Caribbean culture, featuring ten Junior Masquerade bands competing for prizes. The event offers an exciting platform for youth to showcase their talents, with the day beginning with the Junior Steel Pan and Junior Calypso competitions. Comedienne Nikki Crosby, known as “Granny,” will serve as the event’s emcee.
Among the bands competing in this year’s parade are Break Away Kru, China Mas Kids, Fun Generation Too, Major Players, and Zing-Zing Kidzz. Each will present a unique interpretation of Caribbean culture through colorful costumes, music, and dance. The event will also feature performances by the Romeo Tasso Group, offering audiences an immersive experience with African-Afro and Caribbean Tassa drumming.
Junior Carnival Manager, Tricia Baptiste, emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “Carnival is an integral part of Caribbean heritage. We are preserving this vibrant culture through Junior Carnival for future generations.” This family-friendly event allows children under 18 to express their creativity and connection to Caribbean heritage while fostering a sense of unity within the community.
