Former West Indies wicket-keeper/batsman Carlton Baugh Jr has embarked on a new chapter in his cricketing career, joining the Windward Islands Volcanoes as their assistant coach, bringing a wealth of experience and passion to his role.
Baugh began his duties on September 2 under a one-year contract, working closely with head coach Kenroy Peters to enhance the performance of the team’s batsmen.
Baugh, who brings a wealth of coaching experience, will be pivotal in preparing the Volcanoes for the upcoming Super50 Cup and the West Indies Championship set for next year. His primary focus will be on developing the team’s batting skills, a task for which his extensive background as a player and coach makes him ideally suited.
Prior to taking up this role, Baugh spent two years working alongside Shane Brooks and the Jamaica senior women’s cricket team, while also assisting Andrew Richardson with the Jamaica Scorpions franchise. His coaching résumé also includes a successful tenure with Lucas Cricket Club in Jamaica, where he helped to mold local talent.
Expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity
Relocating to St Vincent for his new role, Baugh expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to coach at the regional level. “I am truly excited about this opportunity with the Windward Islands Volcanoes. It’s an honour to contribute to the development of the team, and I look forward to working with Kenroy Peters, who has been a good friend of mine since our days playing regional under-15 cricket,” Baugh said.
A former West Indies player with 21 Test matches and 47 One-Day Internationals under his belt, Baugh revealed that he proactively applied for the position and is thrilled to have been selected. He also shared his aspirations to advance his coaching career in the future, aiming for a head coach role within the region.
“This is a significant step in my coaching career, and I hope to continue growing and one day lead a team as head coach,” Baugh added.
The Volcanoes are hopeful that Baugh’s expertise will help elevate their performance in both domestic and regional competitions, as they gear up for a busy cricketing calendar ahead.
