A 14-year-old boy has been taken into custody by the Toronto police, facing severe legal charges including two counts of murder and seven counts of attempted murder.
These charges relate to the distressing events of June 2, where a shooting in the parking lot of North Albion Collegiate Institute in northwest Toronto, Canada, resulted in the deaths of two Jamaican men.
Sudden violence disrupts community gathering
The incident unfolded late at night when nine men, having just enjoyed a football game, congregated in the parking lot.
Among the group were Delroy ‘George’ Parkes, 61, and Seymour ‘Tappa’ Gibbs, 46, both natives of St Ann’s Bay, Jamaica.
Tragically, their gathering was shattered by gunfire, and Parkes died shortly after being transported to the hospital.
Reports are that Gibbs passed away three days later due to complications with his injuries.
Investigation leads to arrest
In the wake of the violence, Toronto Police Service launched a thorough investigation into the double homicide, which they described as a random shooting.
Their efforts led to a significant breakthrough in the early hours of June 3, following a separate incident involving a stolen vehicle in the same vicinity.
After a short chase on foot, the police apprehended the young driver of the stolen vehicle, soon identifying him as one of the suspects from the night of the shooting.
The teenager, involved in this tragic series of events, faced the court earlier this week.
