Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is teaming up with Florida’s Summer BreakSpot program to ensure children stay healthy and well-nourished during the summer break.
This initiative provides free breakfast and lunch to children up to 18 years old, with no cost to the families.
From June 10th to August 2nd, over 180 schools in Miami-Dade County will serve breakfast and lunch. There are no income requirements or need for registration; however, meals must be eaten on-site as the grab-and-go service has been discontinued.
This effort by M-DCPS highlights their commitment to supporting students even when school is not in session. Families can locate a Summer BreakSpot site for meals by visiting www.SummerBreakSpot.org. The program offers meals at open sites and various camps, both residential and non-residential. Open sites are accessible to all children in the area on a first-come, first-served basis.
The program ensures equal access and participation for all children, irrespective of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability, maintaining a non-discriminatory meal service environment.
Summer BreakSpot is part of the National Summer Food Service Program, a federally-funded initiative run by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). For more information, visit SummerBreakSpot.org.
