Jamaican sprinter Alliah Baker showcased her talent and resilience at the Puma East Coast International Track and Field Showcase held at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Maryland, USA.
Baker’s performance highlighted her continued success on the track following her recent achievements at the Penn Relays.
Competing in the girls’ 100m ‘A’ final, Baker delivered a strong performance despite challenging conditions, securing second place with a time of 11.68 seconds. While Travis McKenzie of the USA claimed victory, Baker’s impressive sprint underscored her potential and competitive spirit.
Joining Baker in the final were notable Jamaican sprinters Sabrina Dockery, Shanoya Douglas, and Shemonique Hazle, who also showcased their talent on the international stage. Despite facing chilly conditions, the Jamaican athletes displayed determination and grit throughout the race.
Jamaican athletes excelled in the sprint hurdles
In the boys’ 100m ‘A’ final, Jamaican sprinter Orlando Wint of Vere Technical emerged as the top-performing Jamaican, finishing seventh with a time of 10.85 seconds. Despite stiff competition, Wint’s performance demonstrated the depth of Jamaican sprinting talent.
Additionally, Jamaican athletes excelled in the sprint hurdles, with Briana Campbell of St Jago High leading a sweep of the medals in the girls’ 100m hurdles. Campbell’s victory highlighted Jamaica’s dominance in the event and showcased the country’s strong tradition in sprint hurdling.
In the field events, Jamaican athletes also demonstrated their prowess, with Kijonna Lee of Vere Technical securing victory in the girls’ high jump and the Jamaican pair from Jamaica College, Shaiquan Dunn and Josh Ty Brown, securing a 1-2 finish in the boys’ shot put.
