West Indies Women clinch 4-1 series victory against Pakistan with dominant performance

West Indies Women secured a convincing 4-1 series win against hosts Pakistan Women in their five-match Twenty20 International series after an outstanding performance led by their captain Hayley Matthews, who was named Player of the Match in the final game on Friday.

The 26-year-old Barbadian all-rounder showcased her skills with the bat, scoring a remarkable 78 runs off 59 balls, including 11 fours. Her outstanding innings propelled the Caribbean side to successfully chase down a target of 135 runs at the National Stadium.

Matthews’ contribution throughout the series was instrumental, as she finished with a series-high total of 205 runs at an impressive average of 41. Additionally, her bowling prowess was evident, as she claimed seven wickets at an average of 15.28, making her a deserving recipient of the Player of the Series award.

A crucial partnership of 103 runs for the second wicket

In the final match, Matthews combined with her deputy Shemaine Campbelle to form a crucial partnership of 103 runs for the second wicket. This partnership laid the foundation for West Indies Women’s successful run chase, with Campbelle remaining unbeaten on 33 runs.

Despite a valiant effort from the Pakistan Women’s team, led by Sidra Ameen’s 48 runs, they were restricted to 134 for eight after being put in to bat. Afy Fletcher and Qiana Joseph were the standout bowlers for West Indies, claiming three and two wickets respectively.

With this victory, West Indies Women concluded their tour on a high note, having won all but one of the preceding seven international matches. The series win is a testament to the team’s resilience and dominance throughout the tour.
