Jamaica Women’s international sensation Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw delivered a stunning performance to lead Manchester City Women to a resounding 5-0 victory over West Ham United Women, catapulting her team back to the top of the Women’s Super League (WSL) in England.
Shaw, 27, showcased her goal-scoring prowess with a first-half brace at the Joie Stadium, setting multiple records in the process and guiding Manchester City Women to their 13th consecutive WSL win.
The prolific striker wasted no time in making her mark on the match, equalizing her goal tally from the previous season with her 20th goal of the campaign just two minutes after Leila Ouahabi’s opener in the first minute.
Shaw’s sensational strike, a clinical finish into the top corner after skilfully controlling a drilled cross, not only leveled her season’s goal tally but also marked her 10th consecutive match with a goal contribution, a remarkable feat in WSL history.
Shaw joined elite company
In addition to her individual milestone, Shaw joined elite company by becoming only the second woman to score 20 goals in two different WSL seasons, following in the footsteps of Australia international Sam Kerr.
The Jamaican forward’s prolific form continued as she netted her 49th and 50th WSL goals in quick succession, reaching the half-century mark in just her 57th appearance in the tournament. Shaw’s achievement places her among the top goal scorers in WSL history, trailing only Vivianne Miedema in terms of matches taken to reach 50 goals.
Manchester City Women’s dominance was further emphasized by Laura Blindkilde Brown’s late goal and Jess Park’s contribution, securing a comprehensive victory that propelled them to the top of the WSL table with three matches remaining. Shaw’s record-breaking performance not only showcased her individual brilliance but also underscored Manchester City Women’s formidable title aspirations in the league.
