Chase, known for his experience in both Test and limited-overs cricket, will lead a 15-man squad featuring established senior players and promising emerging talents. The tour serves as part of the team’s preparation for the upcoming ICC Twenty20 World Cup in June.

Chief selector Desmond Haynes expressed confidence in Chase’s leadership qualities, stating, “Chase has exhibited impressive work ethic and proven leadership qualities over the years. Since his T20I debut in October 2021, he has continued to make considerable strides.”

Alick Athanaze, recognized as a rising star in West Indies cricket, will serve as vice-captain for the tour, providing support to Chase in leading the squad.

Senior players

The squad includes established senior players such as Keacy Carty, Johnson Charles, Obed McCoy, Keemo Paul, and Hayden Walsh, who will provide stability and experience to the team. Additionally, emerging prospects like Kadeem Alleyne, Joshua Bishop, and Mark Deyal will have the opportunity to showcase their talent at the international level.

Selectors have recalled left-arm spinning all-rounder Fabian Allen after 26 months away from international cricket, while Andre Fletcher returns to the squad after a three-year absence from West Indies cricket.

Notably, Brandon King misses the tour due to injury, while Evin Lewis has communicated his unavailability for selection.

Significance of the Nepal tour

Both Haynes and white-ball Head Coach Daren Sammy emphasized the significance of the Nepal tour in refining the squad’s composition and defining roles ahead of the T20 World Cup.

The tour presents an invaluable opportunity for players not participating in the IPL to engage in competitive T20 cricket and for the coaching staff to evaluate the team’s depth and readiness for the global tournament.
